Welcome to the first posting of the eColumn dedicated to choral music.
We envision this column as engendering discussion about the philosophy, theory and practice of choral music in all types of educative environments. We believe choral music has the potential to both initiate musical experiences for all people and provide continuing musical experiences at ever-increasing levels of refinement and mastery.
For the purposes of this forum, choral music involves repertoire, pedagogy, rehearsals, and performances -- in whatever ways they are conceptualized and/or realized.
This forum is initially organized around two broad themes:
a. Choral Music as Lived in Schools: Patrick Freer (Georgia State University; United States) moderates discussions of choral music as practiced in schools. Readers are encouraged to provide perspectives beyond the North American educational tradition.
b. Choral Music as Lived Beyond Schools: Cedricia Maugars (Music Education Consultant; France) moderates discussions of choral music as practiced in community settings.
We hope you find this eColumn to be interesting and provocative. Welcome!
